The BBC/BWBC Mixed Pairs Championships played out over the weekend of 23/24 January in some of the hottest weather seen for some time with temperatures on Saturday topping 30°C.   Qualifying from the 12 team Saturday section play saw semi-final match ups between last seasons champions, Terry & Diana Barrett vs. Odie Walter & Marika Knez, and Scott Harrison & Kerrin Wallace vs. Artem Chesnokov & Chelsea Farley in just marginally cooler weather on Sunday.

The Walter/Knez pairing held a slender lead throughout their match and despite some excellent bowls at times from the Barrett pair, took the win 17-14.  In the other Semi final the Chesnokov/Farley pairing opened up strong early seven point lead, but they were slowly reeled in, then overtaken in the second half of the match by the Harrison/Wallace pairing who eased out to a comfortable 14-10 win.

The final played in front appreciative crowd saw a very early, large break opened up by the Harrison/Wallace pair, taking a six on 2nd end to lead 7-0.  The Walter/Knez pair stuck to the task however and managed to get close, being down 11-9 after 10 ends. However, more consistent bowls both from lead and skip saw the Harrison/Wallace pair ease away to win the Championship 17-12.

A great result both for Kerrin as a 1st year bowler, and for Chelsea making the semifinals as a 1st year bowler as well.
