As a sign of the growing numbers of juniors within the club, a good field of pairings entered this years Junior Pairs competition which was played out on Sunday 21st February. Following section play, played across 4 games of 12 ends the 4 semi-finalists were found to close out the days competition. The first semi-final saw an all first year combination of Chris Watkins & Mark Waugh (s) play Andrew Lamont & Anthony Saunders (s). Chris and Mark got away to an early lead and were never headed closing out the semi final 17-6. The second semi-final saw last years Junior Pairs Champions Artem Chesnokov & Scott Harrison (s) play Allan Moyle & Odie Walter (s). This semi-final proved a tighter affair, with the teams locked at 6-6 until a 5 scored by the Walter pairing provided the buffer for them to manage the game, running out winners by 12- 10. In the final, the Walter pairing took control early and held a 7-0 lead before the Waugh pairing found their way back into the match and managed to close it up to within 2 points with an end to play. The final end went with Moyle and Walter, finishing up 13-10 winners. Congratulations to Allan and Odie. Also great to see first year bowlers, including Anthony pushing their credentials at Club championship level, this will make for a very interesting Junior Singles Event coming up on Sunday 6 March. |
