Like 2016, a large field of 16 entrants stepped out last Sunday to contest the Junior Singles title in the same one day format with qualifying played across 4 games of 12 ends to find top four players to play in finals later in the day. Some familiar faces were in the hunt, and new players made their mark across qualifying which saw only one 4 winner. ![]() The semi finalists were randomly drawn to play as follows with their qualifying results shown.
Both Chris and Ian had dominating wins across the 12 ends playing accurate bowls that bought the prospect of tight and absorbing final to follow. Chris made no race of the final, stretching out to an early 7-0 lead after 3 ends and while Ian battled back to pick up some points, Chris's accuracy, as it had been all day was relentless. After 10 ends with the score at 13-4 Ian conceded to give Chris the Juniors Singles Title for the 2nd year running. A great effort by Chris, as defending titles is a tricky ask at best, let alone at a time when the club has many keen and able Juniors in its ranks. 2016/17 Junior Singles Semi-Finalists from L to R: Ian Hughes, Steve Lamont, Chris Watkins & Graham Farley |
