Over the weekend of December 3rd & 4th the Auckland Men's Triples and Women's Singles Championship were played. The Women's Club had four entrants in the Singles event. Of the four only Tessa was able to qualify out of section play in to the Post Section Round of 16, where she lost to Judi Wong of Carlton Cornwall. An excellent effort by a 1st Year bowler. Tessa Farley The Men's Club entered four teams into the Auckland Triples event again showing that the keen competitive base in the club is growing. Proof that the competition at Centre level is strong, saw only one team progress out of Section play. The teams were as follows with the John James skipped Triple progressing to post section play.
The James Triple took the confidence from 3 wins out of section play into the Round of 16 on Sunday where they accounted for the Dave McFadyen skipped combination from East Tamaki 16-7. A Quarterfinal match up against a strong Hillsboro combination skipped by Chris Lowe was the reward. And in a close fought game, Balmoral prevailed 18-17 taking the win with a shot on the last end. The vagaries of split draw saw the semi-final played the following Saturday against the Onehunga Districts combination skipped by Willow Wilson. In a close game Balmoral built a couple of leads but Onehunga stayed close and as in their previous match, Balmoral turned level with Onehunga at 13 all into the final end. The final bowl of the match decided the game, with Onehunga edging the win 14-13. A great run by the Balmoral combination who were disappointed to not make a Centre final.
