Balmoral fielded 2 teams in the the Auckland Centre 2016 Junior Interclub Championships, a good sign of our steady growth in junior numbers. The 2 teams were as follows.

   Balmoral Maroon  Balmoral Gold
  Singles   Odie Walter  Paul Jerrom
  Pairs   Artem Chesnokov (s)
 Chelsea Farley
 Chris Watkins (s)
 Ian Hughes
  Triples  Allan Moyle (s)
 Paul Griffiths
 Graham Farley
 Les Williams (s)
 Roger Gardiner
 Linda Farley

The Balmoral Maroon team drew home green advantage and used their experience and familiarity to best effect, closing out the section play on Saturday with nine wins from nine and a very healthy points differential.

The Balmoral Gold team comprised almost entirely of first year bowlers ventured to  St Heliers for their section and were not totally outclassed picking up 2 wins, one each in Singles and Pairs and a Draw in the Triples. An outstanding effort by this team, and for many a great learning experience on their first foray away from home greens.
Individual performance of the day was Ian Hughes whose leading in the last round of pairs was outstanding and  combining with Chris Watkins, they had a huge win over Pakuranga. 23-3.  Also the Triples who hit their straps in drawing with last years champions St Heliers.

Balmoral Maroon drew the bye on Finals day to go straight into the semi-finals where they met the host Club,  Point Chevalier Pirates who had had a strong quarter final performance against Howick to book their place in the semi finals.
Odie Walter ran into the form Singles payer of the weekend, Aiden Takarua, and while it was a tight match to begin with, the Pirates player took the match 21-9.
The  Balmoral paring of Chelsea Farley and Artem Chesnokov (s) made no race of it in their game running out winners 20-13.  So progression to the final sat  with the Triples who had an absorbing game, even holding a 3 point lead at one stage,  but the Pirate team played the more consistent bowls over the back end of the match and eased away to a 15-10 win to take the finals berth.

A fantastic effort by all bowlers in what were hot and very humid conditions.
Performance of the weekend goes to  Chelsea Farley a first year bowler and Artem Chesnokov (s) who were unbeaten in the weekend and caught the eye of many, as players to watch.

Thanks from all the players to the support and guidance of Steve Kirwan and Terry Barrett as Managers for the teams over the weekend.
